FileOpen Systems Announces Full Product Compatibility with Adobe Acrobat 8

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 3, 2006. FileOpen Systems, the developer of document security software, today announced that its products fully support the new release of Adobe Acrobat 8 and Adobe Reader 8 from Adobe Systems Inc. PDF documents encrypted and distributed with FileOpen’s Publisher™ and WebPublisher™ products may be viewed seamlessly in Adobe Acrobat and Reader 8, even if they have already been distributed.

“As an Adobe Security Partner, we have designed our products for maximum compatibility with the latest versions of Adobe Acrobat and Reader, the industry-standard viewers for PDF,” said Sanford Bingham, president of FileOpen Systems. “We are also the leader in supporting older versions of Adobe Reader, back to version 4.0, so that our customers are not limited in the distribution of their secured documents.”

FileOpen Plug-in Architected for Compatibility
The encryption components of FileOpen’s Publisher and WebPublisher products operate independently of Adobe Acrobat, so no product upgrade is necessary for FileOpen’s customers. The security settings placed on PDF files by FileOpen’s customers are enforced by the FileOpen plug-in, which is licensed by Adobe Systems to load in Adobe Reader and Acrobat.

Because the FileOpen plug-in was architected in strict accordance with the PDF specification and Adobe’s Integration Key License Agreement for Security Partners, the existing released version of the plug-in is compatible with the new Adobe Acrobat 8. FileOpen’s commitment to the Adobe Reader platform ensures that publishers can distribute protected PDF files to their end-users without forcing a download of a separate PDF display application.

Support for Powerful New Features of Adobe Acrobat 8
FileOpen’s security software adds vital layers of security to PDF files which are not available in Adobe Acrobat 8, such as pass-along prevention, document expiration, and printing restrictions. At the same time, PDF files protected by FileOpen software preserve the new security features in Adobe Acrobat 8, such as the ability to permanently redact text and apply digital signatures.

FileOpen’s products also support Acrobat 8’s new features for shared document review, and the ability to save forms data through Adobe Reader. FileOpen’s encryption process fully supports Acrobat 8’s ability to render Flash, 3D and video communication through Adobe Connect (formerly known as Macromedia Breeze).
