Bug Impacting Print on Mac

Written by Sanford Bingham | Oct 15, 2026, 7:56:56 PM

There is a bug in the 2026.002.21901 update to Acrobat/Reader that causes printing to be unavailable on the Mac. That is, the print icon/menu is not enabled when it should be. Adobe is addressing the bug for but has not given a date for resolution. The Adobe bug number is ADC-4600293.

If you are encountering this issue then your system has already been updated. There is no way to remove an Adobe update. So there are two approaches to addressing the issue:

    • Install older Acrobat/Reader:
    • Install Foxit Editor/Reader for Macintosh

1. Install Older Acrobat/Reader:

Uninstall Adobe Acrobat/Reader and re-install the application from the Adobe website at https://get.adobe.com/reader/

Note that you must install an older version of Reader, specifically the one for Mac OS 10.15 (version 2024.004.20272):

Next you should disable updating of Acrobat/Reader, until Adobe resolves the bug. Do this by turning off automatic updates for Adobe Reader. Go to System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions, scroll down to App Background Activity → make sure Adobe Acrobat Reader DC or similar service is toggled off:

Then re-install the FileOpen Client from https://plugin.fileopen.com

2. Install Foxit Editor/Reader:

There are two ways to do this:

a) Install the free trial of Foxit Editor from the Mac App Store. This version includes the FileOpen Client so no additional steps are required.

b) Install the free Foxit Reader, from https://www.foxit.com/pdf-reader/

Then get the FileOpen plug-in from https://www.foxit.com/pdf-editor/addons/

Select reader and Mac/Windows → download fzip:

Next install the plug-in from the Foxit toolbar → in Foxit Reader toolbar, go to Help → Plug-in Management → Install Plugins → select the fzip from finder:

Then restart Foxit Reader → verify FileOpen plugin is Certified and Loaded:
