Choose FileOpen WebPublisher™ if…

You want to encrypt files on your server
WebPublisher3 includes an Encryptor module that can be run via commandline or as a library on your own Web server (compiled for Windows, Solaris, Linux, freeBSD, HP-UX). The Encryptor can also be set to encrypt PDFs on-the-fly, for implementations in which documents are being customized, watermarked, combined, etc.

You want to define and control document metadata
The WebPublisher Encryptor allows you to create and manage the identifiers and encryption keys used by the system to control files. If you have pre-defined document identifiers you can use these with WebPublisher, whereas in Publisher3, identifiers are generated by the system.

You want to use your own PermissionServer
WebPublisher3 enables you to write your own PermissionServer to manage the permission to your secured documents. The PermissionServer may be written in any language on any server platform. Packaged PermissionServers are available for ASP, ASPX, JSP, and PHP. Your PermissionServer can be written to interface seamlessly with your existing database and authentication systems.

You want to integrate PDF security with your e-commerce system
Using WebPublisher3, you can authenticate users by a cookie or sessionID, so that you can grant access to users based on their status in your e-commerce system. This means that a user could walk up to your web store, purchase a document, and view it without any passwords or registration necessary. Their access to the document could even be defined by what they purchased—viewing only rights, or printing rights, for example.

You want to extend your existing firewall security to your PDFs
Since you are hosting your own PermissionServer with WebPublisher3, you can integrate it with your firewall security to allow access only to users who are logged into your site. The PDFs can reside elsewhere, such as on the end-users machine, but the user must be logged in to your site or Intranet in order to gain access. Users won’t need to enter any additional passwords to view your secured PDFs.

You want a perpetual license to the software
The license to FileOpen WebPublisher3 is perpetual for a one-time license fee, plus a mandatory annual support & maintenance program to receive software updates. FileOpen Publisher3 is licensed as a hosted service for an annual fee while the software is in use. The Publisher3 license must be maintained for as long as you want your end-users to be able to access your documents.
