FileOpen Systems Releases FileOpen PDF 2.1 with Macintosh Client Capability

NEW YORK, NY -- June 22, 1998
FileOpen Systems has released the newest upgrade to FileOpen PDF which allows cross-platform, secure publishing to both Windows and Macintosh platforms. This latest extension of the software establishes FileOpen PDF 2.1 as the leading solution among PDF security offerings.

FileOpen PDF Publisher 2.1, the encryption component of FileOpen PDF, features an extended toolset which creates end-user installation programs for any Macintosh, either PowerPC or 68K. These installers bundle the FileOpen PDF client software, hidden permissions data, and the PDF document into a compact executable file which FileOpen customers distribute to their end-users. The end-user simply double-clicks that file, the FileOpen client is invisibly and quickly installed and the machine authorized to open the publisher's product. As always, FileOpen PDF does not require authorized users to enter a password.

A Cross-Platform Security Solution
The same fine-tuned access parameters which FileOpen PDF provided publishers for their Windows users can now apply to their Macintosh users as well, expanding the reach of publishers' information. Document expiration, both absolute and relative, locking privileges to specific machines or media, blocking printing and editing, are just some of FileOpen PDF's security features which are now available on a cross-platform basis.

"Our customers requested a Macintosh solution for secure PDF publishing, and we listened," said Sanford Bingham, president of FileOpen Systems. "With FileOpen PDF 2.1, publishers can finally develop secure information products that do not leave out the significant installed base of Macintosh users."

Pricing and Availability
FileOpen PDF 2.1, with unlimited free client distribution for Macintosh PPC/68K and Windows 95/98/NT/3.1, is currently available for US$2500. A fully functional trial version can be downloaded from the FileOpen Systems Web site at http://www.fileopen.com. Additional product information and support are available on the FileOpen Web site, or by calling 212-877-3183.
