FileOpen Solutions for Government & Public Sectors

Extend firewall security to sensitive and classified documents.

Governmental organizations are bound by law to protect certain kinds of information, but even the most stringent authentication mechanisms can fail if documents travel outside the firewall. FileOpen's document security solutions for government extend the security mechanisms which are already in place to documents themselves, wherever they may travel.

Since FileOpen's security architecture is based on open standards, FileOpen solutions easily integrate into existing infrastructures, allowing governments to make the most of limited resources and scale to meet higher volumes.   With broad support for standard encryption protocols, document formats and viewers, government organizations can be sure that choosing FileOpen won't lock them into a proprietary or inflexible system.

With over a decade of serving defense, procurement, housing and other governmental bodies worldwide, FileOpen's solutions have been rigorously tested and proven to meet the stringent requirements of government.

Extend firewall security to sensitive & classified documents

Use Case:  Enforcing "Need to know" privileges

A division of the U.S. Army responsible for providing healthcare to military personnel faced particular challenges maintaining compliance with federal regulations.  Tasked with protecting classified and sensitive information in documents, they needed to link document access to existing user credentials so that only personnel with a “need to know” could view them. The department also wanted to leverage existing investments in Microsoft technology and data classification infrastructure without having to implement redundant technology.

After a thorough evaluation of document security solutions, the department chose FileOpen RightsServer™ to protect all PDF, Word and Excel documents created within the organization.  The software was installed on their existing Windows server and intranet, seamlessly tying into their classification engine.  Administrators uploaded users from existing databases into groups with pre-defined access levels based on their area of expertise and authority.
